GREENVIET ATTENDED OPENING VIETNAM ENERGY EFFICIENCY BUILDING WEEK 2018

On August 25th, 2018, the Opening of Vietnam Energy Efficiency Building Week 2018 took place at Goethe Institute in Hanoi. This week aims at honoring green buildings as well as all the consulting, construction and operation companies who have been contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam.

About 50 guests attended the Opening ceremony, including engineers, architects, project owners and developers along with universities, clubs and associations, all of whom focus on how to create energy efficiency buildings.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Phuong, Founder of Vietnam Sustainability Social Enterprise (VSSE) opened the ceremony. Ms. Phuong indicated the significant reason why EEN-Vietnam was founded, and all the efforts of collaboration among Vietnamese and international stakeholders to implement EEN-Vietnam’s various activities.

Mr. Tran Thanh Vu - President of the International Building Performance Simulation Association Vietnam, IBPSA-Vietnam, gave a presentation on the topic of “Green Building, Energy and Foundation” and Mr. Le Truong - Founder and CEO of TT-As Architecture company shared about their real-life experience on successful energy-efficient projects.

Especially, Mr. Phan Tuan Anh, Chief Architect of GreenViet Consultancy Company, also the former student of Sustainable Architecture training course organized by EEN-Vietnam, presented on the role of architecture in integrated design process according to sustainable buildings.

For a LEED/LOTUS/Green Mark/EDGE green building, architects need to be involved right from the early stage of the project in order to integrate the green features into it. Architects’ role is to ensure that passive design and active design solutions together contribute to creating a green building. Optimizing passive design should be prioritized because it can bring energy efficiency throughout the life cycle of the project. Mr. Tuan Anh, GreenViet’s representative, shared an exemplary project of a school for the deaf. His project team has started on this project after finishing their training course in March 2018.

Towards the end of the opening ceremony, Mr. Tuan Anh shared with VTV and VOV in details on the role of the architect in creating an energy-efficient project. Additionally, he also appeals for design agencies and especially project owners to invest in green buildings because of the economic, social and environmental benefits. Furthermore, investing in green buildings at the current stage does not cost much compared with projects of the same scale if invested from the early stage. The design would focus on energy efficiency optimization. Project owners as well as users will then have to pay more for building operation otherwise.
